Week 12

Tom Hanks talks about why he will never play the bad guy in films

http://www.totalfilm.com/news/tom-hanks-on-why-he-ll-never-play-a-bad-guy (read the article)

"Look, playing bad, I am not interested, ever," he says. "I don't want to see bad guys who are just bad, you know? Why are they bad?
"There are evil villains out there like, I don't know, Iago, that are intriguing to play. But bad guys do not look bad - they look like you or me. You could have a knife in your shoe, you know?"
Hanks adds that his 'nice guy' image really isn't an act. "There's no substitute for absolute, complete honesty," he says.
"There are people out there that lie very easily. I refuse to accept that. If you lie to me, you're going to be in big trouble."

Carrie!
From what I understand there was no reason to remake Carrie and a lot of people who have watched it feel the same, the film is not as good as the first but it is an interesting retake on the old version. I personally wont be watching it as i don't like horror's and if i do watch Carrie it will be the older version.

Week 11

The Amazing Spider man 2!

Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) continues to struggle with balancing his life as a high school student and his responsibilities as Spider Man. When Peter begins to investigate more about his farther's past, thanks to his friend Harry Osborn (Dane Dehaan) he begins to realise that the new threats of Electro (Jamie Foxx) and Rhino (Paul Giamatti) all have one hing in common: OsCorb. It is directed by Marc Webb and will be released by Columbia Pictures in 2014.

- I think that the film will be amazing (ha), however I'm not liking the actor who plays Harry as the last film I watched him in was Chronicle and he played a crazy murderous character and he just doesn't seem to fit. Also it will never be as good as 'Spider-Man',the older versions, the ones with Tobey Maguire.

Kill Your Darlings

Kill Your Darlings is a 2013 American biographical drama film directed by John Krokidas in his feature film directorial debut. The film had its world premiere at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, garnering positive first reactions. It was shown at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival, and it had a limited theatrical North American release from October 16, 2013.

Week 10

My favourite Christmas films:

- Miracle On 34th Street (1994)
A little girl discovers dreams do come true if you really believe. Six-year-old Susan has doubts about childhood's most enduring miracle - Santa Claus. Her mother told her the "secret" about Santa a long time ago, so Susan doesn't expect to receive the most important gifts on her Christmas list. But after meeting a special department store Santa who's convinced he's the real thing, Susan is given the most precious gift of all - something to believe in.
I personally don't love this film but my whole family do so we watch it all the time, it always makes me think of Christmas and gets me really excited.

- Edward Scissorhands (1990)
An uncommonly gentle young man, who happens to have scissors for hands, falls in love with a beautiful adolescent girl. I love this film at any time in the year as it is one of my favourite  However when I watch it in the winter it always gets me in the spirit for Christmas.
- Home Alone (1990)
An 8-year-old boy who is accidentally left behind while his family flies to France for Christmas must defend his home against idiotic burglars. This is a classic Christmas film and I have watched it every year on Christmas eve since I can remember and even now it does not get old or boring.

- Elf (2003)
After inadvertently wreaking havoc on the elf community due to his ungainly size, a man raised as an elf at the North Pole is sent to the U.S. in search of his true identity. Elf is a relatively new Christmas film, it is one of the funniest Christmas films I have ever watched!

- The Polar Express (2004)
On Christmas Eve, a doubting boy boards a magical train that's headed to the North Pole and Santa Claus' home. This film is the most magical Christmas film from my childhood, I remember thinking that I would get whisked away onto The Polar Express; I never did.

- How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
Big budget remake of the classic cartoon about a creature intent on stealing Christmas. This film is incredible and definitely one of my favourite, its funny, hear-warming and weird.

- Jack Frost (1998)
A father, who can't keep his promises, dies in a car accident. One year later, he returns as a snowman, who has the final chance to put things right with his son before he is gone forever. I never watched this film as I have only even saw part of the other Jack Frost the evil snowman one, but I finally watched it two years ago and I loved it!

- My favourite Christmas film is The Polar Express as I would watch it each Christmas eve with my brother and it is really nostalgic for me. I cannot wait to watch it this year, best film for the winter! I also love Edward Scissorhands as it is one of my favourite films, it always gets me in the Christmas spirit!

Week 9

Alice In Wonderland 2!

"We suppose it was only a matter of properly hammering out the deal – especially since he’d previously been in negotiations – but word has finally arrived that Johnny Depp is officially signed to reprise the role of The Mad Hatter for Disney’s Alice In Wonderland sequel. The Mouse House has also announced that Mia Wasikowska will be back as the title character.
Muppets director James Bobin is on board to make the film which the 2010 film’s screenwriter Linda Woolverton has already been working on under the title The Looking Glass. We don't know yet what the plot might entail this time, since the first film drank from the plot potions of Wonderland and Though The Looking Glass And What Alice Found There, with references to other adventures. We do know, however, that the producers (including Joe Roth and Suzanne and Jennifer Todd) will be keeping their fingers crossed it makes as much money as the original.
There is even a release date for the new fantasy behemoth, with Disney, in a shock move, choosing not to put it out in 2015, but instead sticking a flag in May 27, 2016."
- The Empire

For me I was really excited when I found out that there was going to be a sequel to Alice In Wonderland, but upon hearing that Tim Burton is not involved I am extremely disappointed. This is because I feel that you will be able to drastically tell that Tim is not involved and also I love the trio: Burton, Depp and Carter! It just won't be the same !!!! However I am excited to see how it turns out.

Thor: The Dark World, review

- I finally managed to watch Thor 2 and for me it was incredible. First of all I love anything created by Marvel so that was a winner. The story for me was really good as it linked in both Thor and Avengers Assemble, it did not feel like it began where Thor left off but more like where Avengers Assemble left off, which was a plus. We got to see more of the infamous Loki, however in this film I feel that he was more wicked and funny than just plain evil, which is how he came across in Avengers Assemble. I like this 'style' of Loki. Talking of Loki, his and Thor relationship became even more bizarre but at the same time it felt like it was needed. I think that the story line cold not have been faulted apart from the evil elves, for me it seemed a bit far fetched as elves are normally the 'good guys'. I think the way the film looked was flawless and to be honest there was nothing much I could complain about, a few unnecessary scenes, but apart from that it was incredible: definitely a favorite of the year so far!

Great picture as well !
